One of the many differences that I have noticed about the industry here versus that of Hollywood is the difference in the community. Los Angeles’s media and creative community was big and you could always find other weirdos that loved and understood the same things. Japan is known to be a lonely place. I’m finding that most community is built by the non-Japanese that live here.
So, to do my best retired party girl ambassadorship, Film Japan is working to have monthly networking events. FilmJapan.org is having our first networking event for the entertainment industry here in Japan. Video Games to commercial production companies and everything in between.

We are also celebrating the getting through the first steps of establishing a chapter of the Visual Effects Society , which will be having events soon as well. Both FilmJapan and the VES will be doing continuing education events in the future as well.
This month we will do a screening on the roof (assuming the typhoon has left) of the Shibuya Startup Support office and networking on the 1st. There will be snacks and beverages but please show your best generosity and bring something to the party, just so we won’t run out if there is a big turn out.
